Guangzhou's Huangpu holds university tech commercialization session to boost technological and industrial innovation
        Update: 2024-08-02     Source: GDToday

On July 31st, a scientific and technological achievements commercialization session targeting prestigious universities nationwide kicked off in Huangpu District, Guangzhou. The aim of the session is to foster a deep integration between technological and industrial innovation.

The event featured over 100 early-stage hard tech projects meticulously selected from submissions by more than ten renowned universities nationwide. These projects spanned four key areas: next-generation information technology, equipment manufacturing, new materials, and biomedicine.

"In the future, robots will become as intelligent and convenient as smartphones, truly entering every household," said Professor Li Zhijun from Harbin Institute of Technology. His project is about an inherently intelligent system to enhance robots' capabilities, making them more suitable for real-life scenarios. Professor Li expressed his hope for further industrial cooperation, citing Guangzhou's robust industrial foundation and strong support for early-stage hard tech projects.

During the roadshow, organizers arranged one-on-one meetings between investment institutions, industrial parks, incubators, and participating projects in Guangzhou, striving to facilitate project implementation.

"With local governments providing the platform, outstanding university projects showcasing their talents, and investment and financing institutions offering coordinated support, this model effectively bridges gaps and sets an exemplary precedent. It encourages society to focus on investing early, in small enterprises, with a long-term perspective, and in hard tech projects, thereby accelerating the commercialization of technological innovations," said Mi Lei, founding partner of Casstar.

The event also witnessed the launch of a recruitment week for research assistants, the unveiling of a dedicated zone for corporate compliance and public legal services on the national industry-finance cooperation platform, and signing ceremonies for law firms' entry. Additionally, there were calls for submissions for the application of data modeling algorithms in industry-finance cooperation.

In the meantime, the Seventh Guangdong University Science and Technology Achievements Transformation Roadshow was launched. This competition has attracted over 2,000 projects from more than 200 universities since its launch, with a conversion rate of 46.6% for the top five sessions. This year, a record-high number of 556 projects from prestigious universities such as Tsinghua University, Sun Yat-sen University, and South China University of Technology have been submitted.

Statistics reveal that Huangpu District currently hosts over 40,000 technology enterprises, including more than 2,800 national high-tech enterprises, 118 national-level specialized and new enterprises, 23 national manufacturing champions, and over 80 listed companies. With an R&D investment intensity of 6.65%, the district boasts the largest incubator cluster in South China and ranks first among national development zones in technological innovation capabilities.

For six consecutive years, the district's industrial competitiveness has ranked among the top three in China's Top 100 Industrial Districts. It has fostered five multi-billion-yuan industrial clusters in green energy, automobile manufacturing, new display technologies, new materials, and beauty & healthcare, as well as three hundred-million-yuan clusters in high-end equipment, biomedicine, and integrated circuits.
