The 62-day national summer travel rush began on July 1, and the first batch of passengers has already started their journeys. To meet the demand for travel, the railway has added temporary passenger trains to increase capacity, and major airlines have also added more flights to ensure smooth transportation.

China Railway Guangzhou Group sends more than 2.04 million passengers per day

China Railway Guangzhou Group is expected to transport 127 million passengers during the summer travel rush, which is an increase of 6.043 million compared to last year. This is a 5 percent year-on-year increase, with an average of 2.048 million passengers per day. To ensure that passengers' travel needs are fully met during this period, China Railway Guangzhou Group plans to operate 116 temporary passenger trains per day. This includes 78 EMU trains and 38 ordinary-speed trains. Additionally, to accommodate the peak passenger flow on Fridays and Sundays, nighttime high-speed trains will also be added.

Airlines add more flights to popular destinations

China Southern Airlines added over 12,000 flights between June 20 and October 10, bringing the total number of flights to more than 250,000. In terms of domestic tourism routes, China Southern Airlines mainly adds flights between Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and central cities to popular destinations in southwest, northwest, and east China.

China Eastern Airlines will operate nearly 800 aircraft, including six domestic large aircraft C919, to fly 1,002 passenger routes, covering 249 destinations at home and abroad during the summer travel rush. For the routes connecting Guangdong, China Eastern Airlines has added routes from Guangzhou to Qingdao, Taiyuan, Dali, Shenzhen to Dali, Xi'an, Foshan to Turpan, Huai'an, Ordos, Hangzhou, Jieyang to Zhoushan, Hefei, Zhuhai to Xi'an, and Ningbo.

More tourists travel outbound

According to data from umetrip.com, as of June 27, the planned number of inbound and outbound routes from July 1 to August 31 reaches about 145,000 flights. Nearly 7 million tickets are expected to be booked on inbound and outbound routes, an increase of about 93 percent over the same period last year.

With a number of popular tourist destinations in Asia providing visa-free access to China, more Chinese tourists are traveling outbound to those places. Taking Laos, which has temporarily exempted Chinese tourists from visas, as an example, as of June 27, about 18,000 domestic round-trip air tickets to and from Laos have been booked during the summer holiday, an increase of about 2.5 times compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, international routes are also continuing to recover. Starting from July, Guangzhou's flights to Paris, Amsterdam, Nairobi, and Auckland will be further increased, while Perth and other routes will resume operations.
