On June 14th, Guangzhou Metro Group made an announcement to tender for the research project on the connection plan between Guangzhou Metro Line 18, Line 22, and the Guangzhou-Huadu, Fangcun-Baiyun Airport, Nansha-Zhuhai (Zhongshan) Intercity Railways" (shortly referred to as the "Announcement").
Taking the integration of these metro lines and intercity railways as a pilot, the plan aims to explore specific solutions for the connection of railway trunk lines, intercity railways, suburban railways, and urban rail transit networks ("four-network integration"). The project is expected to complete all research within 20 months.
According to the announcement, the objective of the research is to address the challenges that restrict the interconnectivity between urban rail transit and intercity railways, and subsequently work out specific solutions for the four-network integration.
Guangzhou Metro Line 18 (Phase I) runs north-south and serves eight underground stations. It starts from Wanqingsha in Nansha District, passes through Hengli, Panyu Square, and Nancun Wanbo, Shaxi, Longtan, and Modiesha, and ends at Xiancun.
Phase II of Guangzhou Metro Line 18 (Xiancun-Guangzhou East Railway Station, with one station and one section in total) is under construction, with 47% of the civil engineering completed. The shield tunnel section has been completed, and the mined tunnel section is under construction.
Nansha-Zhuhai (Zhongshan) Intercity Railway starts from Wanqingsha in Nansha, passes through Cuiheng New District, Torch Development Zone, Qijiang New Town, and Shiqi District in Zhongshan, and ends at Xingzhong Station. Once opened, it will operate in conjunction with Guangzhou Metro Line 18.
Guangzhou-Huadu Intercity Railway begins at Guangzhou East Railway Station, heading north through Jingxi Road, Baiyun Dongping, Baiyun City Center, connecting Fangshi, Fenghuang South Road, Ma'anshan Park, and ending at Huacheng Street in Huadu District.
In the future, Guangzhou Metro Line 18 will connect with both the Guangzhou-Huadu Intercity Railway to reach Huadu, and the Nansha-Zhuhai (Zhongshan) Intercity Railway to reach Zhongshan and Zhuhai. Guangzhou Metro Line 22 will connect Fangcun-Baiyun Airport Intercity Railway in the north, reaching Baiyun Airport. Notably, Lines 18 and 22 will achieve seamless transfer at Panyu Square Station.
