        Highlights and guide of 2025 GBA Lantern Festival

        The 2025 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Lantern Festival will officially open on January 22 in Guangzhou and last for 68 days, blending UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritages, Greater Bay Area (GBA) elements, and the "Belt and Road" cultures to create a spectacular light show.

        Spanning about 580,000 m2 across Puzhou Garden (蒲洲花園), Nansha Tianhou Palace (南沙天后宮), and Coastal Park (濱海公園) in Guangzhou's Nansha District, the festival will be the largest lantern festival in China by area, number of exhibits, and duration. The main tour route extends over 3 kilometers, featuring 218 lantern displays and over 10,000 decorative lanterns.

        Festival highlights

        1. Largest scale of lantern displays

        Featuring eight super-large installations, 37 large ones, and 173 medium-to-small designs, appealing to visitors of all ages. Designed by renowned intangible cultural heritage masters, the festival showcases top-tier lantern artistry.

        The 18m-tall "Floral Goddess" (簪花女神) and 16m-tall "Monkey King" (齊天大圣) are made by Zigong lantern artisans.

        2. Around 1,000 performances and activities

        Visitors can enjoy performances across nine stages, featuring traditional art forms like Cantonese opera, Yingge dance, martial arts, and puppet shows, as well as modern acts like air shows and flash mobs.

        Opening Night:A grand ceremony with air shows, dance, lion dance performances, and a lantern parade with traditional Chinese costumes (aka hanfu).

        January 29-31: Traditional folk performances such as Yingge, Qilin, dragon and lion dances.

        February 1: Lingnan folk art performance and parade.

        February 2-3: Characters like the God of Wealth, Dragon (Loong) King, Eight Immortals, and Matchmaker descend to bring New Year blessings, accompanied by a Fish Lantern Parade.

        February 4: Family-friendly puppet shows.

        In addition, over 50 interactive lanterns and installations, some designed by international artists like Philippe Morin and Michael Stevenson, promise an engaging visitor experience.

        3. A feast for foodies and shoppers

        The Silk Road-themed food street includes 80 stalls offering Cantonese classics like Shunde double-skin milk and Macao's pork chop buns. 

        Over 30 creative stores and 20 trendy vendors will offer local goods, cultural souvenirs, and holiday products. Ten towns and sub-districts in Nansha will showcase their specialties at the festival.

        4. Special discounts and vouchers

        The Nansha Tianhou Palace, one of the largest Mazu temples in the GBA, will offer free access for lantern festival visitors through reservation during the festival.

        Consumption vouchers worth atotal of one million yuan covering 1,900 stores in Guangzhou will be issued. Additionally, 105 businesses in Nansha District will offer discounts for customers with the Lantern Festival ticket.

        5. Custom routes for different visitors

        Designed for different visitor needs, options include 2-hour family-friendly express routes and 4-hour in-depth tours.

        6. Explore nearby tourist attractions

        Nansha District is filled with tourist attractions. Immerse yourself in nature at Nansha Wetland Park's mangroves, savor fresh seafood at Wanqingsha, or enjoy a boat ride with stunning views of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. Discover the rural charm of Dawei Village, the flower seas of Make Village, the waterways of Dongchong, and the silk heritage at Lanhe's cultural park. Also, the Nansha Cruise Terminal is just five minutes from the festival site.

        3:30 pm - 10:30 pm, January 22 - March 30, 2024. Closed on January 28 (Chinese New Year's Eve).

        Early bird (12,000 tickets per day Jan 22-27): ¥68 per person

        18-65 yrs adult: Jan 22-27 ¥128, Jan 29-Feb 12 ¥168, Feb 13-Mar 30 ¥98

        Student (younger than 18 yrs or with a valid student ID) or the elderly over 65 yrs: Jan 22-27 ¥90, Jan 29-Feb 12 ¥118, Feb 13-Mar 30 ¥68

        Each adult can bring a child shorter than 1.2 m for free.

        How to purchase tickets

        Scan the QR code via WeChat or purchase via the "大灣區(qū)燈會" WeChat mini program.

        Purchase on-site. Please bring your valid ID.

        Take Metro Line 4 to the Nansha Passenger Port station.

        By bus

        Take Nansha Bus Route 3, 4, 18, 19, 24, 53, or 54.

        By ship

        Visitors can take the ship to the Nansha Passenger Port from China Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong.
