The Pazhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, is the largest international exhibition center with the most advanced facilities and highest level exhibition usability design in Asia. It is the successful combination of modern architectural design with a well balanced combination of high technology, intelligence and ecologicalization. It does boast the largest exhibition area in the world, totaling 395,000 square meters, and the longest steel horizontal plane span in the world, with each roof of exhibition hall supported by six 126.6 meters-long longspan prestressed beam string steel truss.

Seen from the air, the center  has been visually compared with a white cloud floating in the river, and from the east, the center is like a carp striving to jump to the south bank of the Pearl River, and as such presents a strong sense of the vibrancy and increasing modernism that is the Guangzhou City of today.. Its original design is based on the concept of "floating on the Pearl River", and to complement this theme the center is designed with wavy roofs like rippled wavelets being formed on the eddying currents of the Pearl River.

The Pazhou International Convention and Exhibition Center is not only the first exhibition center in terms of such a huge scale to be built in South China, but serves as the centre venue for Cantonese Fair, the foremost trade exhibition centre inChina. It is located adjacent to the  ancient Huangpu ancient port, which historically was  one of the original starting points of the Marine Silk Road, and the initial development of Guangzhou's marine business culture from birth to prosperity as witnessed by the development of Pazhou.
