A new exhibition has been launched at the Guangdong Museum to display over 70 Chinese painting masterpieces with a theme centered around Hua Yan (1682-1756), an artist from the Qing Dynasty.

The exhibition is organized into four sections to recount the life, art, and inner world of Hua Yan. It is open to the public from July 10 to October 7, 2024.
The first section, "Knowing the Man and Understanding the Society," introduces the audience to the person Hua Yan, providing information about his family and social background.
Afterwards, the section "Unrestrained Elegance: The Spirit of Hua Yan" outlines his life experiences and friendships. Paintings from the Yangzhou School, closely associated with Hua Yan, are on display alongside Hua's works.
The section "Innocent Ingenuity: Understanding the Art" analyzes the origin, style, and innovation of Hua Yan's art. It showcases Hua Yan's masterpieces of flowers & birds, figures, and landscapes.

Additionally, the exhibition has also included a section "Lingering Influence: Passing on to Lingnan" to trace the impact of Hua Yan's art on the Lingnan painting school, in which paintings of Lingnan masters, such as Gao Jianfu, are displayed.
Apart from the exhibition, the Guangdong Museum also presents a video co-produced with Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, which reconstructs the painting process of Hua Yan by analyzing traditional Chinese painting techniques.
During the exhibition, the Guangdong Museum will also host a series of lectures and guided tours, inviting visitors into the world of Hua Yan with the guidance of art experts.
