Four exhibitions in Guangdong have been shortlisted for the final evaluation of the National Top Ten Museum Exhibitions of 2023. This annual event is known as the Oscar Awards in China's cultural relics exhibition realm.

The four Guangdong exhibitions include "Start from Guangzhou -- Nanhai I Shipwreck and The Maritime Silk Road" by Nanyue King Museum in Guangzhou, "Rooted in the Hometown of Overseas Chinese: Exhibition of the History of Overseas Chinese in Jiangmen" curated by Jiangmen Museum, "Gandhara Heritage along the Silk Road: A Pakistan-China Joint Exhibition" with the participation of Shenzhen Museum, as well as "Splendour: Art in the Age of Victoria" held by the Guangdong Museum.

The "Start from Guangzhou -- Nanhai I Shipwreck and The Maritime Silk Road" exhibition brings together more than 400 pieces/sets of cultural relics from 12 cultural institutions in China, of which more than two-thirds are exhibited for the first time. With porcelains, golden and silver coins, bronze wares, golden ornaments, and more heritage found in Nanhai I that were produced in Zhejiang and Fujian as well as those unearthed in Guangdong, the exhibition presents the sailing track of this ship to the public, showcasing the prosperous foreign trade of ancient China.

The "Splendour: Art in the Age of Victoria" exhibition showcases nearly 100 pieces of British oil paintings, watercolors, sculptures, costumes, jewelry, and porcelain from the 19th century. Visitors can catch a glimpse of the artistic achievements of the Victorian era and the cultural blending between the East and the West.

"Rooted in the Hometown of Overseas Chinese: Exhibition of the History of Overseas Chinese in Jiangmen" explains the history of overseas Chinese in Jiangmen from the perspective of human history and Chinese immigration history. Through over 1,000 exhibits, it highlights the journeys abroad of these overseas Chinese, their life overseas, their contribution to Jiangmen, as well as the cultural exchange between China and other countries.

Furthermore, "Gandhara Heritage along the Silk Road: A Pakistan-China Joint Exhibition" is the largest Gandhara art exhibition held in China so far, showcasing 203 pieces (sets) of cultural relics from Pakistan and the Palace Museum. It traces the origin, development, and diverse styles of Gandhara art, demonstrating the long-standing cultural and artistic exchange between China and Pakistan.

The list was jointly released by the National Cultural Heritage Administration, the Chinese Museums Association, and the China Cultural Relics News, with 38 finalists this year. It has been reported that the shortlisted projects will be publicized until April 4. The final evaluation results will be announced on May 18, International Museum Day.
