At present, an exhibition showcasing Guangdong’s traditional wedding clothes is underway from September 30 to October 24 in celebration of China’s National Day. It displays the production process, patterns and types, the symbolic meaning and usage scenarios of those dresses.

A variety of wedding clothes are on show since Guangdong is home to numerous folks, including Guangzhou locals, Chaoshan residents and Hakka people, as well as the water dwellers and many ethnic majorities such as Yao, Zhuang and She. All of them feature different wedding customs and clothes.

The exhibition restores major scenes of traditional Guangzhou-style wedding ceremonies and festivities, allowing you to learn more about how the bride uses her wedding dress.

More importantly, on October 1, representative inheritor Tang Zhiru will also be invited to the exhibition to give a professional and detailed tour for the audience. She will also bring two sets of Guangzhou wedding dresses to recreate the beauty of this technique, an intangible cultural heritage. If you are interested in Guangdong’s wedding customs, don’t miss out!
