From August 15 to 19, 2025, the Southeast Asian Pavilion at the 2025 Southern China Book Fair will be held in Area B of the China Import and Export Fair Complex (Canton Fair Complex) in Guangzhou.
Co-organized by South under the Nanfang Media Group (Nanfang Daily), the pavilion will present a specially curated program featuring the themed book exhibition "Malaysia in 100 Books," the Singaporean Nyonya Culture Exhibition, the sister exhibition of the Selangor International Book Fair (Malaysia), the Southeast Asia International Education Exhibition, and the experience zone for the 24 Festive Drums.
The architectural design of the Southeast Asian Pavilion draws inspiration from the multi-tiered roofs with overhanging eaves commonly seen in Southeast Asian architecture, blending distinctive visual features shared across the region with contemporary artistic expression. In terms of curation, the Southeast Asian Pavilion will showcase approximately 140 selected books from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and other Southeast Asian countries. In collaboration with Malaysian curator Ch'ng Kar Guan, the themed book exhibition "Malaysia in 100 Books" will present works ranging from novels, essays, and poetry to literary criticism, oral history, photographic writing, and cross-media creations. Visitors will also find an array of handicrafts and popular food from across Southeast Asia.
During the event, the 24 Festive Drums, recognized as part of Malaysia's national intangible cultural heritage, will perform twice on August 15: once at the opening ceremony of the "Read the World" Pavilion in the morning, and again during the "Cultural Night" event along the Pearl River Promenade in the evening. Tan Chai Puan, co-founder of the 24 Festive Drums and the National Heritage Living Person of Malaysia, will also host cultural sharing sessions and live demonstrations.
During the book fair, the Southeast Asian Pavilion will also participate in the "Collecting Stamps, Winning Gifts" campaign organized by the Organizing Committee of the 2025 Southern China Book Fair. Visitors who collect stamps from 10 designated pavilions, including the Vietnam Pavilion (Guest of Honor Country) and the Southeast Asian Pavilion, will receive an exclusive co-branded gift set from "IP Guangdong × Southern China Book Fair," featuring a folder and a set of bookmarks.
