From July 20 to October 20, 2025, the Guangzhou Museum of Art is hosting a special exhibition in Hall 1, featuring a distinguished collection of inscriptions, Chinese paintings, and calligraphy from the renowned Xiling Seal Engraver's Society.
Founded in 1904, during the 30th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty, the Xiling Seal Engraver's Society is the oldest existing literary society in China. All its members are outstanding masters in seal carving, painting, calligraphy, and art collection. Over the past 120 years, the Society has consistently adhered to the tenet of "preserving and studying seals, calligraphy, and paintings," and enjoys a prestigious reputation in the international field of seal art and scholarship.
This exhibition is the largest external showcase by the Xiling Seal Engraver's Society in recent years, setting a new benchmark in both the scale and quality of its exhibits.
The exhibition is presented in two phases: the first phase runs from July 20 to September 7, and the second from September 9 to October 20, with select exhibits rotated or updated between the phases.
The exhibits feature a rich collection of inscriptions, Chinese paintings, and calligraphy works by the four founding masters, seven presidents, and notable artists of the Xiling Seal Engraver's Society throughout its history. Highlights include original seal carving stones, gold and stone rubbings, seal-engraved screens, and albums spanning from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the modern and contemporary eras.
During the exhibition period, the Guangzhou Museum of Art will host a series of public cultural events themed around the Xiling Seal Engraver's Society, including lectures, study programs, concerts, and cultural markets.
