On July 28, the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission announced that the city has launched a comprehensive mosquito control campaign. All districts in Guangzhou will carry out unified mosquito control operations from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., aiming to effectively lower the mosquito population density.
The campaign focuses on areas prone to mosquito breeding, including green belts, building rooftops, the surroundings of houses with yards, and vacant houses. Various methods such as ultra-low volume spraying, thermal fogging, and residual spraying will be employed to ensure that no area is left unattended.
For outdoor areas, professional methods including ULV spraying (the preferred method for reducing adult mosquito populations), thermal fogging, and residual spraying will be utilized.
Indoors, ULV spraying and residual spraying operations will be conducted in areas such as staircases, corridors, underground parking lots, and carports.
During the mosquito control operations, regions where infants, young children, and pets are commonly present, along with open water sources, fish tanks, food processing and storage areas, and electrical and high-voltage power distribution rooms, will be avoided to minimize the environmental and health risks associated with insecticides.
Guangzhou requires that all operational personnel receive professional training to master the use of equipment, insecticide formulation, and spraying protocols. In case of rainy weather, priority will be given to indoor or sheltered outdoor mosquito control operations to ensure the campaign's continuous progress.
The Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission reminds residents that they will be notified through various channels, including community announcements, text messages, and WeChat groups, to take home protection measures at the start of the mosquito control campaign.
Residents are urged to cooperate during the campaign by keeping doors and windows closed to prevent mosquito intrusion. If necessary, they can also use mosquito coils or aerosol sprays simultaneously for indoor mosquito control.
