Baiyun International Airport, headquartered in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, achieved steady growth in passenger and cargo transportation in the first half of 2025, significantly enhancing its hub capabilities.
The airport handled a total of 266,000 flights from January to June, with passenger throughput reaching 40.36 million, marking year-on-year increases of 7.0 percent and 9.2 percent respectively.
The airport's cargo throughput reached 1.17 million tons in the first half of this year, showing a two percent year-on-year growth.
Particularly, the airport's performance in international operations became a core engine to drive its growth, with 58,000 flights and 8.19 million passengers in the first-half year period, representing remarkable year-on-year growth rates of 16.1 percent and 22.9 percent.
In the first half of this year, the airport, in collaboration with domestic and international airlines, successfully launched or increased frequency on 19 international and regional passenger routes.
Leveraging policies like the 240-hour visa-free transit, the Guangzhou-based airport actively promoted visa-free policies in conjunction with other airlines, organizing free one-day tours for international transit passengers to help drive passenger traffic growth.
The airport expects to serve approximately 14.6 million passengers during the summer travel peak season, which started on July 1 and ends on Aug 31, with an average daily passenger flow of 235,000, representing a 6.3 percent year-on-year increase.
