Guangzhou's delegation visits Spain to expand cooperation
        Update: 2025-03-05     Source: GDToday

Guo Yonghang, Secretary of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, led a delegation from Guangzhou to visit Spain from February 27 to March 3, local time.

During the visit to Spain, Guangzhou's delegation successively held talks and exchanges with Borja Carabante, Deputy Mayor of Madrid; Natalia Chueca, Mayor of Zaragoza; and María Gaya, Deputy Mayor of Barcelona.

During their talks, Guo said that Guangzhou and Spain have been closely connected through the Maritime Silk Road since ancient times. In recent years, these two places have continued to deepen friendly exchanges and achieved fruitful results in economic and trade cooperation.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership. It is hoped that both sides can take this visit as a golden opportunity to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. Efforts can be made in strengthening cooperation in such fields as sci-tech innovation, low-altitude economy, shipping logistics, culture and sports, and urban governance, as well as enhancing people-to-people exchanges and two-way investment by using overseas Chinese as a bridge, so as to further develop the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership.

Borja Carabante and others noted that Guangzhou is a time-honored trade center and a vibrant innovative city. They are willing to further deepen pragmatic cooperation with Guangzhou in economic and trade investment, advanced manufacturing, higher education, culture and tourism, and other aspects to advance bilateral cooperation to a new phase.

When paying a visit to Emilia Saiz, Secretary General of United Cities and Local Governments(UCLG); Jordi Vaquer, Secretary General of Metropolis; and María Elena Agüero, Secretary General of World Leadership Alliance-Club de Madrid, Guo mentioned that, with the strong support of various international organizations, the Imperial Springs International Forum, the Global Mayors Forum, and the Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation have gained continuously expanding international influence.

It is expected that exchanges and cooperation with various international organizations can be further deepened in the future to give full play to the positive role of forums and activities in urban governance innovation and regional cooperation, thus contributing wisdom and strength to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Emilia Saiz and others said that they will further strengthen cooperation with Guangzhou, jointly build exchange platforms and interactive mechanisms, and work hand in hand to make new contributions to improving global governance and promoting sustainable development.

Guangzhou's delegation also attended the Mobile World Congress 2025, during which they inspected new technologies and products in the global mobile communication field, exchanged exhibition experience, and discussed cooperation with the organizers of the conference.

During their stay in Spain, the delegation also paid a visit to Yao Jing, Chinese Ambassador to Spain, and Meng Yuhong, Chinese Consul General in Barcelona. They had talks and exchanges with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Chamber of Commerce in the Kingdom of Spain, visited companies such as Danord, FC Barcelona, and the Port of Barcelona, investigated the development of enterprises like Xpeng, EHang, and Westwellin Spain, and witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between relevant enterprises and universities of the two places.
