Guangzhou announced to increase one medium-risk area and one low-risk area in Yuexiu District at the press conference held on August 24. Guangzhou authority reminded residents who have taken Guangzhou Metro Line 3, Line 5, Line 21 or transferred at the corresponding stations on August 18 and 19 to report immediately.
On August 23, Guangdong reported 7 new locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases (2 in Guangzhou, 3 in Shenzhen, and 2 in Foshan), and 5 local asymptomatic infections (5 in Shenzhen).
Guangzhou adds 2 new confirmed COVID-19 cases
On August 23, Guanzhou reported 2 new locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases. The cases are a couple who live in Lujing Road（麓景路）, Yuexiu District. They were found when seeking medical treatment in the fever clinic of the Guangdong Second Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. They have been sent to the Eighth People's Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University in a closed loop, diagnosed as a COVID-19 confirmed case (mild type).
The virus gene sequencing results show that the cases are infected with Omicron’s BA.2.76 variant. According to the epidemiological investigation, it is highly likely that the cases were infected when taking metro. Experts indicate that there is a certain risk of community transmission and the possibility of secondary cases can’t be ruled out.
Dengfeng subdistrict in Yuexiu adds 1 medium-risk area
Since August 23, Guangzhou’s Yuexiu, Baiyun and Huangpu districts have started nucleic acid screening. 6.64 million samples have been collected and all tested negative.
The area from Dengfeng Street（登峰街）to Lujing West Road（麓景西路）in the north, Lujing East Road（麓景東路）in the east, Heng’an Road（恒安路）in the south, Xiatang West Road（下塘西路）and Tongxin Road（童心路）in the west (except No. 2 Lujing Road（麓景路2號）and No. 2 Baohan Zhi Street（寶漢直街2號）) in Yuexiu District is designated as an medium-risk area. The rest of the Dengfeng Street（登峰街）in Yuexiu District is rated as low risk.

If you have taken Guangzhou Metro Line 3, Line 5, Line 21 or transferred at the corresponding stations during the following periods of time on August 18 and 19, please report to your community and complete two nucleic acid tests within three days.
Baiyun District continues nucleic acid screening in key areas
On August 24, Baiyun District continues nucleic acid screening in key areas, including Zhongluotan Town（鐘落潭鎮）, Sanyuanli Street（三元里街）, Jingtai Street（景泰街）and Yuncheng Street（云城街）.
Huadu District organizes nucleic acid screening in key areas
On August 24, all residents in the following key areas of Huadu District are required to take a nucleic acid test:
(1) Xinhua Street（新華街）.
(2) Yangyi Village（楊一村）, Yang Second Village（楊二村）, Yang Third Village（楊三村）, Shentian Village（莘田村）, Shentian Second Village（莘田二村）, Jingtang Village（京塘村）, Shijiao Village（石角村）, Baoliang Village（保良村）, Gangtou Village（港頭村）, Lixi Village（李溪村）, Fenghuang Village（鳳凰村）, Beixing Community（北興社區）, Luochaigang Community（洛柴崗社區） in Huadong Town（花東鎮）.
Shenzhen detects 3 new confirmed cases and 5 asymptomatic infections
On August 23, Shenzhen reported 3 new locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases and 5 asymptomatic infections. 4 cases were found in the close contacts of imported cases under quarantine, and 2 were detected in the screening of key population under closed loop management.
The above cases have been transferred to the emergency ward of the Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen for isolation and treatment in a closed loop.
Foshan reports 2 new confirmed cases
On August 23, Foshan detected 2 new locally transmitted COVID-19 confirmed cases. All cases were found in the close contacts of cases reported on August 20. They were quarantined on August 20 and tested positive for COVID-19 on August 20, 21, and 22. Based on the epidemiological investigation and clinical manifestations, they were diagnosed as COVID-19 confirmed cases. All have been sent to the designated hospital for isolation and treatment in a closed loop.
