Guangzhou ranks among China's most livable cities for the sixth time
Update: 2023-11-27     Source: Yangcheng Evening News, Xinhua News, Guangzhou Daily

The results of the "2023 China's Most Livable Cities" survey were announced at the Happy Cities of China Forum 2023 held in Chengdu on November 24th.

Among the cities recognized, Guangzhou has earned this prestigious title for the sixth time, following its previous wins in 2010, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022.

Residents know best whether a city is livable. For the people living in Guangzhou, the key to their happiness lies in the extensive coverage and improvement of public services. With nearly two million people aged 60 and above, Guangzhou has catered to the elderly care needs by establishing 178 comprehensive health centers since 2020, offering services such as full-time and daytime care in every neighborhood.

A livable city is friendly towards both the elderly and children. In Yuexiu District, a less than 200-meter-long alley has been transformed into the enchanting "Most Beautiful Route to School," adorned with adorable cats and awakening lions on its walls. This initiative has injected a sense of fun into what was once a dull and monotonous path through an old community.

The livable features of Guangzhou are hidden in every detail of daily life. Currently, the city has constructed over 1,400 public mother-and-baby rooms, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for mothers and their babies when they are away from home.

Improving the city's infrastructure is at the heart of enhancing the overall well-being. Guangzhou is actively engaged in urban renewal projects, revitalizing old communities, rejuvenating ancient villages, and beautifying urban villages. So far, the city has renovated 907 old neighborhoods and built 958 community green spaces and public areas. From a small fishing village to the bustling Pazhou Village accommodating a multi-billion-dollar e-commerce headquarters cluster, and from old factories transformed into the birthplace of WeChat, these "internet-famous spots" and "beautiful communities" with Lingnan characteristics have emerged, leaving lasting memories about the city and preserving a sense of nostalgia for the residents.
